Baby Stroller 101: What to Look for In Your Stroller

Last updated 4 months ago

Strollers are an important piece of your baby furniture collection. You'll get as much use out of your stroller as you will the crib. To find the perfect stroller, check out these great tips for hints on what to look for.

Type

There are several kinds of strollers to choose from. Think about your needs and decide which stroller will be best for you based on what the stroller will be used for—you may decide that you need more than one stroller! Some of the different kinds of strollers include:

  • Jogging strollers
  • Umbrella strollers
  • Strollers for multiples
  • Tandem strollers for babies and big kids

Safety

Your baby's safety is a huge concern in a stroller, just like it is in other piece of baby furniture. Look for a stroller with a five-point harness, brakes, and a tether to keep the stroller from getting away from you. Make sure not to overload the handles of the stroller, and don't let your baby climb into or out of the stroller to prevent falls.

Color, Pattern, and Design

Think about whether you want your baby's stroller to match the rest of your baby items. You may want to get a travel system that matches your high chair, swing, bouncer seat, and jumper, or you might choose to pick a stroller in the color of your baby's nursery.

Ease of Use

Another important thing to keep in mind is how easy it is to use. If you can't unfold the stroller yourself, or lift it into or out of your car, it's probably not going to be a good stroller for you. Look for one that is easy to fold and unfold, easy to steer, comfortable to push, and isn't too heavy for you.
